The existing machine shop was installed with a recessed metal halide system. Light levels had dropped from 50 to 30 foot-candles due to age of the lenses, spot re-lamping and end of life ballasts. An increase in the number of machines had caused some areas to have unacceptable levels of shadowing due to the spacing of existing system. A new system was needed to increase light levels, provide better distribution and reduce energy costs.
Objective: To increase light levels to 80 foot-candles, provide better max/min ratios and reduce energy consumption by at least 30%.
Solution: Replace 84 2x2 400-watt metal halide lay-in troffers with 126 new 2x4 troffers using four T8's, Miro4 reflector and standard power electronic ballast to meet project requirements.
Material: Luminaire - MSF24 4 32 NIX12 A12 277 1/4 GEB OS; Ballast - Osram 4 lamp instant start standard power; Lamp - Sylvania FO32/841.
